AFSS Student Travel Grant

Applications are invited from research students for travel assistance to attend and present a paper at the Annual Congress of the Australian Freshwater Science Society. The purpose of this assistance is to encourage students to present the results of their work in public. Students who are carrying out research in any branch of limnology for a higher degree are encouraged to apply.
Conditions
Applicants must have current financial membership of the AFSS, and
Applicants must be at least 50% part-time students at an Australian university, or for any such applicants who have submitted their thesis within the last 18 months (and are no longer enrolled), they must (a) be presenting that research at the conference and (b) not be funded by an employer to attend the conference.
There is no age limitation.
Process for application
Applications must include a written statement of no more than 200 words describing the research, its significance and the stage that has been reached.
Applications must include a separate letter or email from the student’s supervisor in support of the student’s statement and application.
Applicants must provide evidence of satisfying the conditions of eligibility for the award (see Conditions above).
Applications must include an abstract of the work that the applicant proposes to present to the conference.
Assessment
Final decisions are at the discretion of the AFSS Executive and based on funds available. Applications are assessed on the basis of:
Significance of the work.
Originality and soundness of the research.
The progress made and whether the stage has been reached where something useful can be presented. Ability to present a clear and concise statement of the study.
