AFSS Statement on Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
The Australian Freshwater Sciences Society (AFSS) is dedicated to the scientific study of all aspects of inland waters from fresh to salty, flowing to stationary, on the Earth’s surface as well as below the surface. AFSS is determined to foster an inclusive community of people in which success is determined only by each person’s scientific curiosity and practices, whether pursuing questions in foundational science or applying knowledge to improve environmental management. AFSS recognises that scientific societies are effective when there are no barriers to participation. Accordingly, AFSS welcomes and encourages participation by all individuals regardless of attributes such as (but not limited to) age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical or mental difference, national origin, culture or spirituality. AFSS strives to encourage open expression and exchange of ideas, a spirit of tolerance and respect, freedom from all forms of discrimination, and to be welcoming to all members and those who participate in its activities.
